Billy Kemp
Billy Kemp, born Billy, and not William, grew up on a tiny farm in Wyoming with horses, geese, and chickens. As much as Billy loved life in the country, he had always dreamed of the bright lights and fast pace of the big city. When he finally made his move to sunny California, he had a chance meeting with a TV producer that led to his first job in “showbiz” as a researcher for Richard Simons where he was helping make deserving people’s dreams come true on “Richard Simmons’ Dream Maker.”
From there Billy moved on to a produce a list of dating and game shows such as “Friends and Lovers”, “Surprise Wedding 1 & 2,” MTV’s “Spring Break”, “Headliners & Legends,” The Wade Robson Project” and even testing the waters of casting with the then unknown dating show “Elimidate” as the one of the first members of its casting director team. He soon found more enjoyment in the realm of casting and producing took a backseat. Just some of his casting credits include “Temptation Island 2”, “Man vs. Beast”, “Nanny 911”, “Next Great Champ,” “Performing As,” “Distraction,” “Next Action Star,” and numerous pilots. Billy was also a consulting director for “Wife Swap” and “Meet my Folks”.
Billy was brought over to powerhouse production company, Fremantle Media, to help cast two of their brand new shows “How Clean Is Your House?” and “Property Ladder.” After successfully casting these shows, both of which were picked up for returning seasons, FremantleMedia made him an offer he couldn’t refuse; to oversee all casting for the company. FremantleMedia is a giant global company that is responsible for such hits as the massive number #1 show on television “American Idol”, “The Price is Right”, “American Inventor”, “America’s Got Talent”, “Thank God You’re Here”, “Property Ladder,” “The Swan”. “The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency, “Family Feud,”…the list goes on. With such an impressive roster of programming, there was no way Billy could say no.
Throughout his time at Fremantle Media as Executive Director of Casting & Talent, Billy has played a key role in casting the hosts and judging panels for both “America’s Got Talent,” “American Inventor” and currently the longest running game show in television history, the Emmy Award Winning “The Price Is Right.” He is responsible for all development casting as well as overseeing series casting. Three new shows that Billy cast pilots for recently were picked up for series including “Thank God You’re Here” for NBC, “Temptation” for MyNetwork and “The Farmer Wants A Wife” for The CW.
